Dr Walter Geibert, AWI, Germany

Dr Walter Geibert (Alfred Wegener Institute Bremerhaven) is a specialist in the marine geochemistry of naturally occurring radionuclides. After obtaining his diploma degree in physical geography from the University of Trier, he completed his PhD in marine geochemistry at the Alfred Wegener Institute and at the University of Bremen. He was a postdoc and research fellow at AWI, at the Scottish Association for Marine Science (Oban, UK) and at the University of Edinburgh (UK) before taking up a position as head of the radionuclide group at the Alfred Wegener Institute. His analytical expertise covers a variety of radiometric counting techniques and ICP-MS spectrometry as well as general marine geochemistry. He currently serves as a co-chair of the GEOTRACES standards and intercalibration committee.

Research interests: tracing liquid-solid interaction with natural radionuclides; proxies in paleoceanography; tracers for ocean biogeochemistry and ocean physics; extraterrestrial material in marine sediments; trace element fluxes.
